Yoshio made more than forty “creative woodblock” (i.e., Sōsaku Hanga ) prints of flowers and (or) birds during the last half of the twentieth century. Ten examples are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Two creative features of the objects appearing in Yoshio’s prints are their partly distorted shapes, each outlined in black, and their false colors. As a result, the identity of his flower and bird subjects is not always clear. Flowers and birds were typically placed in the foreground with a lake and mountains often in the background (e.g., prints 1-8). To see more prints by Yoshio click here.
